Smokeshop Smokeshop.
Fusion At Room Temperature.
From the start of their career they were intent on creating their own style. On stage, Darren Watson displayed the authority of a musician twice his age - acutely aware of the nuances that characterised the styles of different players, and could reproduce them at the flick of a plectrum. On the drum stool, Richard Te One was the chef of the shuttle, keeping the groove on a constant simmer. The band was filled out with solid bass, pumping keyboards, and a knockout horn section. Smokeshop had the skills to play any style of music they pleased, as the title track of this collection - a red-hot boogie with jazz-funk overtones - amply demonstrates. In the meantime listen to these timeless tracks. You may be surprised how good the blues can make you feel. [Nick Bollinger, 1996].
